FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Meeting of June 18th
Jerry Hay of USDA recommends setting up co-op
June 20 -- The meeting of June 18th was small in attendance
but a lot was talked about seriously. Issues were set forth and Jerry Hay of the
USDA Rural Development Committee recommended we proceed with plans to set up a
cooperative. Those attending that are willing to work with us and attend
additional meetings were; Brian Maple, Commodity Broker for FC Stone, Betty and
Elvin Latta, Brad Burbink, and Jerry Hay of the USDA. Others that attended the
meeting that agreed to be members of a steering committee were; Frank Walton,
land owner, Nila Armstrong, INDNR representative, Marty Evans, local
businessman, Diana DeHart, from Growers Co-op, and Brad Ferre. Other interested
parties in attendance were; Kathleen N. Pierce of Linton, Joe Milner of Growers
Co-op, Geoff Jackson, and Tom Royer.
Jerry Hay presented a book to the committee from the USDA
entitled, "USDA Sample Legal Documents". This reference book
will help in the legal process of forming a farmer organized cooperative. It is
well advised to have the cooperative set up correctly the first time so the
future focus of the committee can be on the actual planning of the facility.
Nila Armstrong volunteered to take the minutes of the meeting and they will be
available to the public soon.
